Have you ever wondered how our planet was created? We have knowledge of how a plant grows or even how trees grows, it is a long process.
Just imagine. A giant star is dying, and it explodes as a super nova, where the shock wave is blasting through space toward a cloud of hydrogen, this cloud collapses which forms rings of gas and dust. At the center of all this, a nuclear furnace begins to heat up. This is where our sun is born and also the nine planets of our solar system. This realm of the sun is like a bubble, which is called a heliosphere.
The theory that emerged was that the sun was surrounded by a cloud of dust and gas, as that cloud cooled, little grains and minerals formed. All those grains and minerals floating in the gaseous cloud moving around the sun, began to collide into each other.
There was a problem with this theory, no one could explain how colliding microscopic mineral grains could create an object the size of a planet.
In 2003 an experiment on board of the international space station accidentally provided substances in the conditions of space. Astronaut Don Pettit did a simple experiment by pouring salt in a plastic bag and shaking it. The results proved to be incredible, the particles immediately began to stick to each other, forming little clumps, all held together by static electrical charges. Scientist realized that if grains of salts could get stuck together in space, so could the mineral grains in the solar dust cloud, this essentially started the formation of earth.
As mineral grains in the solar dust cloud bumped into each other and stuck together, they grew into small pieces of rock, orbiting the sun. Over the next few million years some of them collided and grew bigger, many of these rocks are still orbiting the sun today. They have drifted for the past four and a half billion years, unchanged from when they first formed. Occasionally they fall into earth and these are what we call meteorites, they provide scientists an incredible window into the past.
If a meteor falls to earth, scientists are quickly to jump onto them. Meteorites contains minerals and metals from the solar dust cloud.

Gradually billions of these rocks grew, first to the size of boulders and then houses. Once it reached the size of a kilometer across, it generated its own gravitational pull, and this would be strong enough to pull other objects towards it.
We tend to gaze up towards the sky, on a warm summer night at the beach, we see thousands of stars shining back at us. It is amazing when you imagine exactly how everything around us was made.
